This year is about you. It’s your chance to be independent, focus on your goals and experiences. It’s more than a new academic endeavor. You will meet so many new people, some of them will be your lifelong friends. This is most likely your first time away from home and your first time living with a stranger. You’ll feel pressure to do things that you’ve never done before and for the first time it’s up to you and you alone to decide what you want and what is best for you. The best way to get through it all is to simply embrace it, this is all part of the experience, and it’s all part of your story. Get involved with clubs on campus, participate in traditions like the underwear run at the end of the first week of classes, keep an open mind and show kindness with everything you do. Here’s a list of a few things you should pack for a successful freshman year:

-rain boots, rain coat, umbrella

-lamps and string lights (even the dingiest dorm looks good with the right lighting)

-throw rugs

-electric fans (you probably won't have AC and you WILL miss it)

-surge protectors

-can and bottle openers

-Head phones (this is more for your roommate than it is for you)

-medicine and first aid kit

-tool kit, flashlight

-pictures and posters (decorating your dorm is the best part of moving in)

-command strips and hooks

-shower caddy, shower shoes, towels, washcloths

-XL twin bedding and pillows

-your favorite books and movies

-extra storage bins and small shelves

-trash can

-notebooks, pencils, pens, scissors, tape

-cleaning supplies, broom and dustpan
